跪拜禮，在中國古代是最常見的一種禮節。「伸腰及股而勢危者為跪，因跪而益至其恭，以頭著地為拜。」，古人的跪拜禮出現和當時人們的生活習慣有關，古人坐時，要兩膝著地，然後臀部坐於後腳跟上，腳掌向後向外，實際上就相當於我們現在的「跪」姿；桌椅發明後，出現了雙手抱拳的作揖禮，以及再後的點頭鞠躬禮。當表示最大的恭敬時，人們仍沿用下跪磕頭的方式，表示出最高的尊敬。
在佛教的信仰於莊嚴的佛菩薩壇城前，首先做三門─身、口、意清淨供養的頂禮，龍德 上師開示：「禮佛一拜，罪滅河沙」。身、口、意清淨供養的頂禮，一方面表示我們對諸佛菩薩的虔誠恭敬，一方面可以時時消除我們身、口、意的業障，還能改變命運及對治眾生的傲慢心。」
龍德 上師開示：傲慢，是我們修行的大障礙，常常在釋迦牟尼佛前頂禮、做大禮拜懺罪消業，會消我們多生累劫的業障，尤其是傲慢心，當於頂禮時五體投地，完全臣服於諸佛菩薩，諸佛菩薩不會因為我們跪拜祂，而得任何利益，但我們自身卻能淨除身語意的業障、開智慧，蒙受大利益；所以中國人常說：拜佛「跪下就有福」，跪下頭點地，對治我們的傲慢；不對治傲慢心，無法成為虛心受教的法器，盛裝諸佛菩薩的甘露加持。
過去，法達法師希望獲得六祖慧能大師的開示，來向六祖慧能大師請法，法達法師自恃七歲出家，大乘經典《妙法蓮華經》熟讀三千部，和六祖大師請示時，跪拜之禮，頭不點地，六祖慧能大師對他開示：「拜我不點地，你心裡一定還有相當自豪的東西。《妙法蓮華經》你已經讀了三千部，等你讀了一萬部、且不覺得超勝，也才跟我齊頭而已。」，所以我們學佛修行向諸佛菩薩做頂禮，也是札札實實地從我們的身語意來修行，把自己心裡那杯自恃甚滿的水給倒光，聽聞正法時進入心續產生改變。這邊也有網路上其他師兄分享的經驗談!
